Lei Yin said coldly, “That’s not the point. The point is, why are you still alive?” Back at the ruins, just before the explosion, Lei Yin, hiding in the woods, had clearly seen her and another man descend into the pit. When the explosion occurred and the ruins were buried by lava, he distinctly saw that no one had escaped the pit. So how could this woman sitting here now be explained? Although her appearance had changed through plastic surgery, Lei Yin was certain that the person he saw that night was the same individual.

Sasako spoke softly, “Just as I initially suspected, it was all a setup. My mentor said the trap was meticulously designed. Even though those people now harbor some doubts about the incident, they have no concrete way to dismiss it as anything other than an accident. Do you know how I discovered it?”

“That’s another question I wanted to ask.”

“It’s actually quite simple—because of Lei Li’s expression. Women and men are different. Sometimes, women rely more on intuition than rational thought. I noticed that Lei Li’s gaze was odd. It wasn’t the look of someone desperate or trying to escape. How should I describe it? Ah, yes—it was the expression of someone about to enjoy a show. Even though it only appeared for a fleeting moment, I knew something was wrong. So when we reached the bottom of the pit, I found an excuse to stay outside and didn’t go in with them. When I heard the first explosion from inside, I realized the ‘show’ Lei Li had been waiting for was starting. In the ensuing chaos, I climbed up and used my psychic ability to carve out a path near the pit’s edge, escaping from there.”

After hearing her account, Lei Yin immediately had a question in his mind. “Why did you do that?”

Sasako smiled and said, “You really are sharp. You instantly caught the underlying meaning in my words. You’re absolutely correct. If I wanted to escape the pit, I didn’t need to go to such lengths. The reason I created a new escape route was to make them think I was dead. Now it’s my turn to ask you—why do you think I did that?”

“I prefer multiple-choice questions over long-winded riddles, so why don’t you explain it yourself?”

“You’re still as unromantic as ever. Before I explain, you must have wondered why those people, after learning you were Yan Yuxiao’s disciple, didn’t come after you. The reason is simple: I didn’t report your true identity. What I told them was that you were merely a liaison officer for the Japanese Black Dragon division. Naturally, they wouldn’t waste resources targeting someone so insignificant. Actually, I came here specifically to find you. Earlier, I was just playing a little joke. Now, to answer your question—I faked my death because my mission was complete.”

“Mission?” At that word, Lei Yin’s mind seemed to catch onto something.

Sasako’s expression suddenly became unusually serious. “General Yang Xiao asked me to deliver a message: he’s very grateful for the batch of items you secretly delivered, as well as the years of research data on the Descenders from the U.S. military. He also said that if you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. As long as it’s within their power, they’ll do their best to help.”

Hearing this, Lei Yin couldn’t help but feel a shock in his heart. In a deep voice, he asked, “Who exactly are you? How do you know about that?” As he spoke, his killing intent surged.

Sasako smiled briefly before saying, “I am a member of Group 27 under the Special Operations Division of the Chinese Ministry of Defense, codenamed 23. My mission was to investigate the development of unconventional secret military technologies within the U.S. military. The details of this mission were originally highly classified, but General Yang Xiao is very grateful for everything you’ve done and has made an exception to disclose my identity to you.”

Lei Yin looked at her with skepticism. “Are you really an undercover agent sent to the U.S. by the Special Operations Division? How can you prove your identity?”

“Didn’t you once ask General Yang Xiao to send a few espers to assist and protect Lei Li? I am one of the espers he intended to send. There’s a letter in the left pocket of my jacket—it’s from the General, addressed to you. It explains everything.”

Lei Yin reached into her left pocket and found a sealed letter.

Using his free hand, he opened the letter and read it carefully. After finishing, he slowly let her go.

“Your real name is Zhang Qian?” Lei Yin asked, sitting in front of her.

“Yes.” Zhang Qian’s eyes no longer carried the seductive charm they once held, replaced instead by a calm, serene smile.

“How long have you been undercover?” Lei Yin asked as he used a lighter to burn the letter.

A pained expression crossed Zhang Qian’s face. “Since I was 18. It’s been over nine years now. To be honest, if I hadn’t survived the fusion experiment, I wouldn’t have been able to access their core departments. Although they claim to be a nation that accommodates all ethnicities, in their highly classified divisions, they never employ Asians or Black people.”

Lei Yin remained silent. While other 18-year-old girls were falling in love or studying, she was struggling to survive in a life-threatening environment. The pain she endured was beyond words. Moreover, if she were discovered, her country would never acknowledge her.

    “Are there others like you?”

“Sorry, I can’t answer that without authorization from my superiors.”

“Never mind, it was just a casual question. Can you tell me how you found out about the Descenders?”

“Yes. General Yang Xiao said that any information about the Descenders could be shared with you. Ever since the UFO crash incident in Roswell, New Mexico, 50 years ago, almost every country has been paying attention to this matter. The truth couldn’t be hidden forever. After decades of investigation, we finally confirmed the existence of the Descenders. We also know that some of the U.S. military’s unconventional weapons are derived from the technology recovered from that crashed UFO. Because of this, I was assigned to infiltrate their ranks to obtain more data or, if necessary, sabotage their efforts.”

At this point, everything was clear to Lei Yin, so he didn’t ask further questions about it. Instead, he moved on to another topic. “How are you progressing with the research on those things?”

“That’s the responsibility of the research division, so I don’t know much. However, I do know that those technologies are far beyond the capabilities of modern civilization. Fully decoding and utilizing them won’t happen in a short time. But regardless, you’ve given us hope.”

After a moment of silence, Lei Yin said, “To be honest, I still don’t know if this decision was right or wrong. Those technologies aren’t suitable for the current era.”

Zhang Qian replied softly, “Who can predict the future? Tomorrow, I’ll begin my new mission of protecting Lei Li. May I stay here for the night?”

    Lei Yin nodded.

“Thank you. May I use your bathroom? I’d like to take a shower.”

“There are fresh towels in the cabinet. Feel free to use them.”

“Thank you.” Zhang Qian slowly walked toward the bathroom.

Hearing the sound of water running from the bathroom, Lei Yin smiled bitterly. He hadn’t expected this woman to be a double agent. However, it seemed that, for now, he was safe. As long as those people didn’t uncover his real identity or the fabricated one, they likely wouldn’t trouble “Gennai Masashi” anymore. It wasn’t that he feared trouble; he just didn’t want those people targeting the ones close to him—that was the last thing he wanted to happen.

After a while, the sound of running water ceased, signaling that she was about to finish.

“Masashi, could you come here for a moment?” Her voice suddenly called out from the bathroom.

Lei Yin walked to the bathroom door and asked, “What is it?”

Suddenly, the lights in the living room and bathroom flickered a few times before going completely dark, plunging the house into pitch blackness.

At that moment, the bathroom door opened, and a warm body pressed into Lei Yin’s arms. Simultaneously, a pair of slender arms wrapped tightly around his waist.

Lei Yin remained silent, standing still. In the darkness, the only sound seemed to be their heartbeats.

After a moment of silence, Zhang Qian, nestled in Lei Yin’s embrace, softly said, “Can you hold me tonight?”

Slowly, Lei Yin wrapped his arms around her completely bare and alluring body.

“You know,” she began, her voice trembling slightly, “I’m so very tired. When I was there, I actually volunteered to participate in the fusion experiment. It wasn’t just because I wanted a chance to truly infiltrate their core departments. At that time, I also thought it would be a way to end my life. But ironically, in an experiment with a survival rate of less than one percent, I survived. The ones who wanted to live died, while the one who wanted to die survived. Life is always so unpredictable.

You must know, for female spies like me, our bodies are often used as tools. Over the years, I’ve been with so many men that I’ve lost count. Sometimes, I feel so dirty, like a cheap prostitute.” As she spoke, her body began to tremble slightly.

Lei Yin felt a warm dampness against his chest.

Gently stroking her hair, Lei Yin said softly, “The only ones who are dirty are those men. I don’t think you’re dirty at all.”

“Do you really mean that?” the woman in his arms asked in a low voice.

“Yes,” Lei Yin replied, planting a light kiss on her forehead.

Zhang Qian trembled as she said, “Th-then… would you want me? Just once is enough. Please?”

Without much thought, Lei Yin picked her up in his arms and carried her toward his bedroom.

Zhang Qian wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her face tightly against his chest, listening to the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat.

After placing her gently on the bed, Lei Yin slowly began to remove his clothes.

Hearing the sound of his clothing being removed, Zhang Qian felt her body grow hot. Her heart, which she thought had long been numbed, began to race uncontrollably.

Sitting on the bed, Lei Yin pulled her into his arms. Starting from her forehead, he kissed her gently, moving slowly down to her nose.

When his lips reached hers, Zhang Qian took the initiative to offer her lips, and Lei Yin eagerly claimed them.

Under Lei Yin’s relentless teasing, Zhang Qian eventually responded, tentatively extending her tongue. Their tongues intertwined in an intimate dance, entwining like two strange creatures locked in a never-ending embrace.

No one knew how much time had passed, but when their lips finally parted, Zhang Qian was gasping for breath, nearly on the verge of suffocation.

Lei Yin began gently caressing the smooth skin of her back and abdomen.

As his hands moved, Zhang Qian’s breathing grew more rapid. After a while, she could no longer suppress a soft moan.

His hands gradually reached the most distinctive features of her femininity, and he began teasing her proud curves.

“Do you know why so many men have a particular fondness for this part of a woman?” Lei Yin whispered in her ear while his fingers continuously rubbed and kneaded her most sensitive spots.

“Why… why is that? Ah…” Zhang Qian panted.

“Because deep down, many men subconsciously wish to return to the time when they were nurtured and cared for as infants by their mothers.” As he spoke, Lei Yin slowly moved one hand downward.

When his hand reached her lower abdomen, he suddenly shifted it to her smooth, rounded calf, stroking it gently.

“Your legs are truly beautiful,” he murmured, his hand sliding upward.

    “Do you like them?”

“No man could dislike such stunning legs.”

    “Don’t…”

“Don’t what? Don’t touch there, or don’t listen to me?” Even as he spoke, his fingers didn’t stop their rhythmic movements.

“Please… stop, I can’t take it anymore…” She felt as though his hands carried some sort of magic, igniting an unquenchable fire wherever they touched.

“This is payback for your earlier teasing, Professor Sasako. The night is still long.”

    “You bastard… Ah… not there…”

The next morning, when Zhang Qian opened her eyes, Lei Yin was nowhere to be seen.

Did he leave? A hint of disappointment flickered in her gaze.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps from outside. A moment later, the door opened, and Lei Yin walked in, fully dressed.

“I thought you’d already left,” Zhang Qian said, her surprise giving way to delight.

Lei Yin smiled. “This is my home. Where could I possibly go? Get up and have some breakfast.”

“You can cook breakfast?” Zhang Qian asked with mild astonishment.

“There are quite a few things I can do aside from having babies. I just don’t usually bother,” Lei Yin replied, placing her clothes beside the bed.

When Zhang Qian reached for her clothes, she noticed Lei Yin watching her with a mischievous smile. Blushing, she scolded, “Get out already!”

“A beautiful woman getting dressed is a rare sight worth admiring carefully. Hurry, or breakfast will get cold.”

Knowing this rascal wouldn’t leave, she wrapped herself in the bedsheet and got out of bed to dress.

The moment her feet touched the floor, her legs felt weak, as if she had no strength left. Turning to glare at him, her cheeks flushed as memories of the night resurfaced. This man had been like a rogue locked away for decades. If she hadn’t begged him desperately toward the end, she had no idea how long he would’ve kept tormenting her. The thought brought an inexplicable mix of embarrassment and shyness to her heart.

Surprisingly, the breakfast he made was exceptionally delicious. After finishing her meal, Zhang Qian quietly picked up the dishes and took them to the kitchen to wash.

When she finished, she said to him, “Could you help me buy a newspaper? I haven’t read one in days.”

“Sure,” Lei Yin replied, giving her a deep, lingering look before heading out.

When Lei Yin returned with the newspaper, Zhang Qian was already gone.

Standing in the empty living room, Lei Yin let out a soft sigh.
