Seeing Amy hiding behind Masashi, Rolando seemed slightly surprised. As he approached her, the little girl immediately withdrew further behind Masashi, too scared to show her face. Seeing this, Rolando stopped in his tracks.

“Ailin, is Amy unhurt?” Rolando turned to Ailin.

“She’s fine, maybe just a bit shaken from last night’s incident,” Ailin replied, noting that Amy seemed afraid of Rolando.

“As long as she’s not hurt.” The middle-aged man nodded.

“Ailin, has Mr. Bacon mentioned the funeral arrangements for Montreux? The elders in the family have decided to hold his funeral the day after tomorrow at Joyce Cemetery,” Rolando informed her.

“Mr. Bacon has already told me. I’ll be there on time,” Ailin replied after a brief silence.

“The deceased has passed; I hope you won’t be too heartbroken,” Rolando comforted her.

“I know that since Mr. Montreux’s accident, you’ve been the one most affected. I hope you’ll also take care of yourself,” Ailin said to Rolando.

    “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

Just then, a maid entered and informed Mr. Bacon, “Mr. Adams is here.”

Upon hearing this, the people in the room showed subtle changes in their expressions. Ailin, in particular, unconsciously clenched her fists.

“Please bring him in,” Mr. Bacon responded promptly.

After the maid left, a slightly tense atmosphere settled over the group, and everyone fell silent. Masashi couldn’t help but feel curious about what kind of person Adams was, as he was the reason Masashi had come to Switzerland in the first place.

Soon, a vibrant man in his thirties walked into the hall, guided by the maid.

Masashi had seen photos of Montreux—a serious, composed man whose demeanor bore a striking resemblance to that of his older brother, Rolando. This resemblance wasn’t physical but more of a shared air of diligence and rationality.

Masashi had learned some background on the Defoe family from Ailin. Montreux was the illegitimate son of the former Defoe patriarch, Siro Defoe, a fact that had once been a taboo scandal within the family. When Montreux was ten, his mother, a beautiful Korean woman, passed away. After the funeral, Siro Defoe, despite facing pressure from the family, insisted on bringing Montreux to Switzerland.

Naturally, this caused a huge uproar, nearly leading Rolando, Adams, and Melfi’s mother, Siro Defoe’s wife, to divorce him.

In the end, Montreux stayed and even changed his original Korean name to Montreux, officially becoming a member of the Defoe family.

Montreux’s eventual ascension as the family head owed much to his diligent and outstanding work ethic, with significant support from his father. His impressive work ethic was largely shaped by his background.

Growing up as the illegitimate child of a prominent family leader would be humiliating for anyone. With Montreux’s distinctively Asian features, he stood out in the traditional Swiss family, making him an easy target for discrimination and bullying.

A child growing up in such an environment typically takes one of two paths: they either fall into despair or rise to the occasion. Fortunately, Montreux chose the latter.

The man now walking into the hall, Adams Defoe, was like his elder brother Rolando—a classic Italian-Swiss type. But Adams was far more handsome than his elder brother.

“Oh, you’re here too, big brother. It’s been a while,” Adams greeted with a cheerful smile, flashing his white teeth.

“What are you doing here?” Rolando frowned.

“What, aren’t you glad to see me?” Adams asked, his smile unfaltering.

“Weren’t you in Finland? How are you back so soon?”

“I just got off the plane this morning. I heard something happened here, so I came by to check in.”

Rolando gave him a look but didn’t say anything further.

Adams shrugged and made his way over to Ailin.

“It’s been a while, Ailin. You look more beautiful every time I see you. How about joining me for dinner tonight? I know a place with great steak,” Adams said, his eyes fixed on her.

“Thank you, Mr. Adams, but I’m quite busy recently, so I’ll have to decline your invitation,” Ailin replied politely, though she despised him.

“That’s a shame. Remember your ex-fiancé, Nico? He said he misses you. If you join us tonight, he’ll be there too,” Adams said, smiling.

Ailin unconsciously clenched her fists again. After a moment, she restrained her anger and said, “Mr. Adams, I ended my engagement with Nico a long time ago, so he and I have no relationship whatsoever. Please don’t misunderstand.”

“Oh, that’s even better! Just the two of us can have a romantic evening,” Adams continued.

“I’ve already said that I’m busy and won’t be able to join you,” Ailin said flatly.

“No worries. Take your time to think it over. If you change your mind, give me a call. I’ll be waiting,” Adams said with a hint of affection.

The brazen attitude of this playboy left Ailin with no choice but to stay silent and ignore him.

Masashi smiled to himself; Adams was an entertaining character, if not exactly a good person. Dealing with someone like him at least wouldn’t be dull.

Like a government official visiting disaster victims, Adams glanced at Masashi and Amy, who was hiding behind him, before turning back to Ailin. “Ailin, could you introduce me to this young gentleman?”

Ailin sighed inwardly, then put on a polite face. “This is my friend, Lei Yin. Lei Yin, this is Mr. Adams, Montreux’s brother.”

Adams looked at Masashi intently and asked casually, “Mr. Lei Yin, are you a foreigner?”

“Yes, I’m Japanese-Chinese. Ailin mentioned that the scenery in Switzerland is beautiful, so I came to see for myself,” Masashi replied with a smile.

“So, Mr. Lei Yin is a tourist?”

    “Yes.”

“Switzerland’s scenery is indeed beautiful. If you’re interested, I could accompany you on some tours. Would you be interested?” Adams asked, his gaze heavy with meaning.

Hearing this, Ailin shot a worried glance at Masashi, and Rolando also frowned.

“Sorry, but I prefer traveling on my own. If I wanted a guide, I’d join a tour group—they usually have more attractive guides anyway,” Masashi replied nonchalantly. There was no need for pleasantries; they were on the verge of open hostility.

Hearing his response, Ailin visibly relaxed.

“That’s unfortunate. I was hoping we could be friends. However, I’d still like to give you a piece of advice: don’t do anything beyond what a tourist should do, or you might encounter some trouble. This is Switzerland, not Nepal,” Adams said, his words now pointed.

“If a tourist sees cockroaches and steps on them, or picks up trash and throws it away, does that go beyond a tourist’s role, Mr. Adams?” Masashi continued to smile.

“Mr. Lei Yin certainly is a considerate person,” Adams said, giving him one last look before returning to his playboy demeanor.

Yet from Adams’ gaze, Masashi knew he had murderous intent.

He suddenly noticed that the little girl hiding behind him was trembling as she looked at Adams in fear.

Understanding Amy better by now, Masashi grasped the situation. He quietly reached back and held her hand, and soon, her shaking stopped.

It seemed the show was about to begin, and a faint smile appeared on Masashi’s face.
