    “This should be the place!”

Following Guo Teng’s pointing finger, they saw a house without any signage.

    The front door was ajar.

Feng Wei’s expression changed instantly, and she pushed the door open without hesitation.

The moment the door swung open, a faintly sweet, metallic scent of blood wafted out.

But the small courtyard before them was spotlessly clean—no bloodstains, no signs of a struggle.

Feng Wei and Guo Teng exchanged a glance before splitting up to search the only two rooms in the house.

Almost simultaneously, the old wooden doors creaked open with a drawn-out squeak.

    “Nothing here!”

    “Don’t come in!”

The first shout came from Guo Teng. The second—from Feng Wei.

Hearing her words, Guo Teng, who had just stepped over the threshold, immediately withdrew his foot. If it were just an ordinary death, Feng Wei wouldn’t have warned him away.

Recalling how Old Heng had been harassing the woman surnamed Le the day before, Guo Teng could already guess what the scene inside that room looked like.

With a deep sigh, he was about to find a place to sit when Feng Wei’s voice rang out again.

“Let’s go. We’re finding that beast!”

“Got it!” Guo Teng responded, quickly following after her as she rushed out of the courtyard.

Earlier, while inquiring about the woman surnamed Le, they had also learned where Old Heng lived.

As they hurried along, Guo Teng could feel the killing intent radiating from Feng Wei.

For someone as composed as her to be this eager to kill, Old Heng must have committed something truly heinous…

Deep in thought, he soon realized they had already arrived at Old Heng’s house.

But before they could step inside, five masked figures emerged, bloodied blades in hand.

For a moment, both sides froze.

Among the five, two were gripping gold ingots—each one stained with fresh blood.

It was clear—these four ingots had sealed Old Heng’s fate, sending him straight to the underworld.

“You’re late. You wanna get involved, or pretend you saw nothing?”

After a brief standoff, the man holding the gold spoke in a low, steady voice.

Feng Wei’s response was cold. “Is he dead?”

The masked man hesitated. “Dead. Deader than dead.”

Feng Wei pressed on. “Are you planning to keep robbing?”

The man scoffed. “What, you planning to join in? Or are you trying to double-cross us?”

Feng Wei said, “No. Just asking—are you stopping or not?”

“Are you kidding? We’ve already started—why stop now?”

“We’ve marked everyone who took gold and jewels today. If you two get in our way, you’d better be smart and back off. Otherwise, we’ll cut you down along with the rest!”

As he spoke, the masked man gestured for his group to withdraw.

But before he could take more than a few steps—

    Bang!

A deafening gunshot rang out, and his left leg instantly went numb!

Feng Wei had made her move.

And Guo Teng wasn’t about to just stand there either—raising his iron shield, he charged forward. Three punches and two kicks later, the entire gang was knocked unconscious.

No matter how low the recruitment standards for External Agents might be, or how insignificant their rank, they were still trained to deal with supernatural threats. Against mere villagers blinded by greed, it was a complete slaughter.

    “Break their arms and legs.”

Before Feng Wei even finished speaking, Guo Teng had already acted.

These villagers had already tasted blood, and they wouldn’t stop at just one robbery. If their limbs weren’t broken, they’d only keep stealing.

So, without hesitation, Guo Teng followed through with Feng Wei’s command.

After dealing with the five masked men outside, the two of them stepped into Old Heng’s courtyard.

The man who had tormented East Corner Village for over twenty years—infamous and reviled—was now reduced to a mere torso in the courtyard. His limbs and other body parts were strewn across different corners.

“Looks like the bastard tried to hide the gold and ended up being tortured for it… This is karma in action,” Guo Teng clicked his tongue.

Feng Wei let out a long breath. “Compared to that mother and child, maybe he actually got off easy.”

    “What?”

Guo Teng was stunned. He could barely imagine—Old Heng had practically been hacked to pieces, and yet someone else had suffered worse?

No wonder Feng Wei had been radiating such murderous intent.

“Let’s go. East Corner Village won’t be peaceful tonight.”

“If we can’t deal with that chang ghost, we can at least stop the looters.”

Hearing this, Guo Teng nodded. “Right. Break their arms and legs. If they’ve done something truly unforgivable—kill them.”

By noon the next day, after an exhausting night, the team gathered to share reports on the villages they had been assigned to.

Gu Ning’an, who had handled West Corner Village, had the least chaotic night. Many of those who had been chasing after the Lustful Ghost in a frenzy were so terrified by Yu Ling that they “came to their senses” and hurried home.

    Even so, bloodshed was inevitable.

Those who had been prowling the alleyways after the Lustful Ghost returned home, only to find their own spouses being unfaithful.

There’s truth to the saying: gambling leads to theft, and lust leads to murder.

Catching an adulterer in the act naturally led to violence.

It was said that several men were either killed or castrated by enraged husbands last night.

As for South Corner Village, it had been the most chaotic of them all.

Qiao Min had spent the entire night locked in battle with the butcher.

Meanwhile, Liu Feng had taken the opportunity to work with Old Donkey, exorcising over twenty minor ghosts. Six of the possessed villagers even survived the ordeal.

In North Corner Village, Zhou Chongtian discovered that his ability to talk his way through situations had significantly improved.

After an unexpected village guardian appeared and managed to hold off the chang ghost in opera robes, Zhou Chongtian had used a divide-and-conquer strategy to help the possessed villagers shake off the influence of the Sorrowful Ghost, bringing smiles back to their faces.

Along the way, he encountered many villagers who had been swayed by the spirits over absurd reasons.

    The most ridiculous case?

A child had joined the Sorrowful Ghost’s procession, wailing all night, simply because his mother hadn’t bought him a birthday gift.

After hearing the boy’s story, Zhou Chongtian immediately handed him one tael of silver, told him to go buy his own birthday present, and personally escorted him home.

That said, Zhou Chongtian made sure to note down the boy’s address.

Once everything was settled, he planned to pay a visit to the parents—so they could properly teach their child a lesson.
