Chapter 276: Summoning a Yin Immortal
by Potato“Heaven is divided into yin and yang. At yin time, ghosts walk in the yang realm; at yang time, ghosts walk in the yin realm. To summon ghosts, yin and yang must merge—only then can one command spirits in the mortal world.”
“What does it mean, ‘At yin time, ghosts walk in the yang realm; at yang time, ghosts walk in the yin realm’…?” Grandpa Donkey’s voice trailed off as he read aloud, his brows furrowing even deeper.
After a moment, he suddenly reached out and urged, “Give it here! Quick, let me take a look!”
Hearing this, Liu Feng immediately handed over the book.
The moment Grandpa Donkey saw the slip of paper tucked inside, he blurted out, “Someone tampered with our manual!”
“What?” Liu Feng’s expression turned sharp. “This wasn’t left by someone from our sect?”
“Absolutely not!” Grandpa Donkey sighed. “No one in our sect writes this well.”
Liu Feng was stunned. “Huh???”
“Something’s off! Something’s really off!” Grandpa Donkey clicked his tongue, staring at the note. “Why does this feel like a message meant for me…?”
“You keep quiet for a moment. I need to think.”
Saying this, Grandpa Donkey sat down on the floor, rubbing the “old mud” on his chest while muttering words like yin time and yang time under his breath.
About the time it takes to burn an incense stick later, Grandpa Donkey suddenly flung the book aside and dashed out the door!
Liu Feng caught the manual midair and let out a helpless chuckle. “For this thing to have survived until now… it must have some real luck.”
Before long, Grandpa Donkey returned, carrying a large wooden basin. He placed it on the ground and sat cross-legged in front of it.
Inside the basin were various ritual items—yellow paper, cinnabar, a writing brush, red incense, white candles—everything needed for a summoning ritual.
“Go fetch the leftover white rice from the stove, pick two fresh cucumbers, and bring that piece of freshly rendered pork fat as well.”
Having spent days learning under Grandpa Donkey, Liu Feng immediately understood that this wasn’t for eating—it was for an offering.
When that minor ghost caused trouble in Four Corners Town, Grandpa Donkey had used similar methods to invite unseen “spirits” to partake in the offerings.
Among these offerings, the red incense was particularly important. Once “eaten” by spirits, it would be imbued with mystical power, turning into one of Grandpa Donkey’s most potent tools for exorcism…
Liu Feng quickly gathered the requested items and stood to the side, watching Grandpa Donkey’s every move with keen focus.
Setting up the incense burner, arranging the offerings, lighting the white candles—after completing the intricate ritual steps, Grandpa Donkey picked up three sticks of red incense, lit them from the candle, and solemnly bowed before the incense burner.
“This is the time of yin, the great path of the yang realm has taken form. A sacred altar is set, incense is lit, and offerings are made to the yang—now, may the Yin Immortal reveal themselves!”
Whoo—whoo—whoo!
A chilling gust of wind suddenly swept through the tightly sealed room. The bamboo chopstick holder on the table was knocked over, sending yellowed chopsticks clattering to the floor!
Yet, the white candles before Grandpa Donkey remained completely still—their flames only burned brighter!
The flickering firelight reflected in Grandpa Donkey’s cloudy eyes, deepening the wrinkles on his face.
As he firmly planted the three sticks of incense into the burner, they visibly burned down at an unnatural speed!
“It’s coming! It’s coming!” Grandpa Donkey’s face flushed with excitement as he shouted.
Realizing that he was about to witness a ritual he had never seen before, Liu Feng couldn’t help but ask curiously, “Master, what’s coming?”
Without blinking, Grandpa Donkey replied, “A ghost, a spirit, or a demon… I’m not sure. But it’s something from the yin side!”
Why does that not sound reassuring at all…?
Liu Feng swallowed nervously, his eyes darting to the door. If Grandpa Donkey accidentally summoned something truly sinister, he’d immediately open the door and bring the black donkey inside!
Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh!
The red incense burned to its end, and wisps of blue smoke swirled through the air!
In the blink of an eye, a towering figure materialized before them.
Liu Feng’s hair stood on end, and the sudden drop in temperature made him feel like he’d fallen into an ice cellar!
“It worked! Hahahahaha!”
“I did it!”
Unlike Liu Feng, who was on edge, Grandpa Donkey showed no fear at all. Instead, he burst into wild laughter!
At the same time, the towering figure let out a deep, rumbling chuckle.
For a moment, the laughter of man and ghost echoed throughout the room!
This is bad… Did Master lose control and get possessed?
I need to bring the black donkey in to check on him!
Just as Liu Feng had this thought and took a few steps toward the door, it suddenly burst open!
The one who kicked it open was none other than the black donkey!
It snorted loudly, shook its nose, then walked straight into the room. After carefully scrutinizing the towering figure, it joined in the hysterical laughter…
Now, the eerie cackling of a man, a ghost, and a donkey blended together, making Liu Feng’s scalp tingle!
After much deliberation, Liu Feng finally grabbed his iron shield from the corner, ready to strike the uninvited entity that had suddenly been summoned!
“Put that down!”
Seeing this, Grandpa Donkey barked angrily before adding, “This is the Yin Immortal I summoned—show some respect!”
“Uh…” Liu Feng hesitated for a moment before slowly lowering his raised shield.
The tall figure turned to him and grinned. “Hey there, my name’s Yao Wu. Where is this place?”
“Yao Wu?”
Liu Feng froze, his face filled with disbelief. “You’re the guardian of North Corner Village?”
“Weren’t you already dead?”
As soon as he said that, Liu Feng smacked his forehead. “Oh, right! You are dead—otherwise, how could you have become a Yin Immortal?”
“Hehehe~”
“What Yin Immortal? I don’t know what that is!”
Yao Wu scratched his head and grinned. “So, why did you guys summon me? I was just about to eat the food my brother brought me!”
Hearing this, Grandpa Donkey spoke up, “The Yin Immortal must be hungry. We’ve also prepared some food—if you don’t mind, why not have a little?”
“Hmm…” Yao Wu turned to glance at the plate of rendered pork and white rice on the floor, then chuckled. “You guys don’t seem to be in any trouble, and I can’t accept kindness without reason—so I won’t eat it!”
“I’ll go find my brothers first. If you ever need me, just call!”
With that, Yao Wu’s figure gradually faded until he vanished completely.
“Good! Good! Good!”
“Yin Immortal, safe travels!”
Grandpa Donkey bowed respectfully in the direction where Yao Wu had disappeared, then quickly collected the incense ashes from the burner, grinning. “The incense eaten by a Yin Immortal holds true mystical power—not even ordinary spirits can compare!”
Off to the side, as if compelled by instinct, Liu Feng took the slip of paper from the manual and flipped it over—only to find another line of small characters written on the back.
It read: “Study well, and your future will be boundless!”
At the bottom, the signature was simply: “A Fellow Comrade.”
Upon seeing this, the image of a man dressed in white—Mr. Gu—flashed through Liu Feng’s mind.
He glanced at his master, who was smiling contentedly, then turned to face the east and bowed deeply.
“Thank you, Mr. Gu!”
